Betty Rennell retired as Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in December 2007. During her 34-year career, she also served as teacher, assistant principal, elementary principal for 12 years, and director for personnel management and employee relations. During her tenure in the department of human resources, she oversaw the recruitment and hiring of staff as Cypress-Fairbanks ISD doubled in size, becoming the third largest school district in Texas.  In her role as assistant superintendent, her primary focus was on supporting and assisting principals in all areas of personnel management.
