K-5 Fine Arts Initiative Components

School-based fine arts team consisting of a teacher from two of the fine arts disciplines (drama, art, music, and dance), at least one non-arts teacher, the principal, one other administrator, and a representative from an outside arts organization.

Professional Development through Learning through Art (LTA) at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. LTA is a multidisciplinary resource curriculum for grades 1 through 6 that integrates works of art from the MFAH collection into a school’s curriculum for art, language arts, math, science and social studies.

Critical Friends Group training, Reforming Schools Summer Institute training and New Visions in Leadership Academy.

Artists in the classrooms with teachers to develop lessons that marry art and mathematics, language arts and science. Students may work as resident artistic apprentices in the classroom.

Fine Arts Network to share lessons learned.

Common planning time for teachers from all grades.

Shared lesson plans around arts.

Campus-based activities to show parents and the community how fine arts integration can help all students.
