Currently, teams of educators from 10 high schools in four local districts (Aldine, Alief, Goose Creek and Humble) participate in the Houston A+ Challenge Regional Collaborative for High School Redesign.

The primary goal of the collaborative is to improve student performance in high schools by transforming classroom practice and improving instruction at participating schools.

Additional goals include:

  1. All participating core classroom teachers will collaborate to design high-quality instruction and assessment.

  2. All participating core classroom teachers will provide high-quality instruction and assessment.

  3. Identified campus leaders will provide vital support to participating core classroom teachers.

In 2008-09, four primary activities will help collaborative members achieve these goals:

  1. Principals and key administrators will meet monthly with A+ to further develop leadership skills that support instructional improvement.

  2. Teams from each campus—other than the principals—will meet monthly with A+ to plan and implement an instructional support system to be piloted with a single group of math or science teachers from each campus.

  3. School teams will conduct cross-site visits during the school year to explore common dilemmas.

  4. Principals and teams will gather for a summative conference in May 2009, to share best practices, lessons learned and next steps.
