Two More A+ Aspiring Principals Tapped to Lead Schools in 2010

Houston A+ Challenge is proud to announce that two aspiring principals in Cohort Two of our Regional Princpal Leadership Academy will take on new roles as building principals starting in January 2010.

Karl Koehler will lead Atascocita Middle School in Humble ISD, and Michael McKenzie will lead WALIPP Preparatory Academy, a Houston ISD middle school charter located on the Texas Southern University campus. (Read Koehler's thoughts on how the A+ Academy helped prepare him for the job.)

"As these new leaders begin their work with faculty and students, Houston A+ Challenge will be there to support them," said Director of Leadership Sheri Miller-Williams. "Through coaching, technical assistance and a network of community resources, A+ looks forward to helping these schools prepare students for postsecondary success."

Koehler started his career as a middle school math and science teacher in Houston and Humble ISDs, and most recently served as assistant principal and Principal Intern at Atascocita Middle School. McKenzie has worked as a teacher and administrator in Alief and Aldine ISDs and KIPP Academy.

Koehler and McKenzie follow in the footsteps of three members of Cohort One serving as building principals since the start of the school year: Alfred James at Carraway Intermediate in Aldine ISD, Ellen Winstead at YES Prep West, and Reginald Fisher at Frankford High School in Philadelphia, PA.
